Lesson 1.1 – The Freedom Decision: Why Going Solo Changes Everything
In this opening lesson, I’ll share the story behind Solo Firm Freedom™—and why I believe far more lawyers should at least seriously consider building a firm of their own.
I’ll walk you through my journey from working at a “prestigious” firm—with very little control over my time, income, or the cases I handled—to giving notice, hanging my own shingle, and building a lean, highly profitable practice with minimal staff and overhead.
But this lesson isn’t just a backstory. It’s a frame-shift.
Because for most lawyers, the real dream isn’t “having a firm.”
It’s freedom—control over your schedule, your work, your income ceiling, and the life you’re building outside the office.
You’ll also learn who this course is designed for, how it’s structured, and how to get maximum value from every module—even if you’re not 100% sure yet whether going solo is right for you.
In this lesson, you’ll:
- Hear a candid version of my story—including fears, mistakes, and the turning points that mattered
- See why the “comfortable-trap” is so dangerous for lawyers who want more out of life
- Understand the course roadmap and how the modules fit together
- Preview the tools, checklists, and templates you’ll get access to
- Identify what “type” of lawyer you are right now so you can apply everything to your situation
Your only job after this lesson: keep an open mind—and commit to the short Module 1 exercises so you’re making decisions based on facts, not just fear, frustration, or fantasy.
